I own a Bushmaster varminter and can tell you it is one fine gun.
Accuracy is fantastic with all name brands of ammo, and it has NEVER had a feeding, firing, or extraction malfunction.

Although I have heard some gripes about Bushmasters, I haven't any with mine. I would highly recommend these rifles to anyone looking for an AR 15. As a former US Army Ranger (1/75inf), I think that I am qualified to rate the Bushmaster XM15 E2S M4 as a very good firearm. After 1000 or so rounds, I have to give it a 10-- not one problem or malfunction, and very accurate for a 16in. barrel. I have experience with quite a few different firearms and brands. I shot the original M16 in Vietnam and must say the Bushmaster is the one I wish I would have had for that conflict. I have also shot the Colt AR-15 as a state police "designated shooter"for 22 years and still prefer the Bushmaster

I am a police firearm instructor. For the price, quality and support staff this is my AR-15 style rifle of choice. All gun companies treat government agencies good. Bushmaster treats everyone with same respect and support.
If you the most out of a AR-15 rifle get one that has a piston driven upper. Then you have accuracy of AR-15 and reliability of an AK-47. Bullet choice depends on what you use the rifle for. Same is true of barrel ...
