Garmin are often regarded as a leading sat nav developer. With a 20 year history and a massive range of products which includes the famed eTrex range of hillwalking GPS units and peaked with the Garmin Nuvi range, Garmin are seen as a global leader.
Garmin also include the Forerunner series for bikes and runners, a marine system for boat owners, avionics systems for pilots, and even the Garmin nuvifone, which is intended as a close rival to the Apple iPhone.
Garmin also offer a good service via their website, www.garmin.com, which includes access to services like Garmin downloads and updates, an online sat nav store, and Garmin accessories for the gadget-philes!

As a 100.000 mles a year long distance courier driver, a good sat nav is very important to me. updated because my old sat nav, at 3 years old, was getting a bit dated. OLD SAT FINDS ROADS THAT 200W CANT. maps seem 2 be way out of date. the only sat nav that i know off that does not have traffic light camara's warning. had i known this, it would have been the one thing that would have stopped me buying it. Good points? does what a sat nav is made for. put full post code in and it wil get you ...

Extremely user friendly. In general clear concise verbal instructions, backed by clear road map on screen. Device appears well made and durable. We have named our Nuvi 'Garmina'. She took us to the Alps and back avoiding the toll roads. More time taken but a much more pleasant journey. The money saved on tolls, paid for the sat nav. I don't normally leave reviews but I read one review on this site which slated the 250 - as it kept telling the driver to get off the motor way at every exit. Well it does do this when its set in "bicycle" mode !! Equally if its set in "pedestrian" mode you might not fit he car down the recommended paths !!! I've driven all around the UK with is unit and its perfect. I also taken it on tour in France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland etc and it navigated perfrectly.
A great ...

I purchased this unit refurbished but identical to new. Came with 1 year MSN direct subscription for free. Would not renew as there is only traffic info provided for my area on 2 major routes, just not worth it.
Overall though the unit functions very well and is much more responsive than my older Garmin gps. I don't always agree with the routes it chooses and wish there would be software for these that would learn your preferred routes over time. Still, if you can get one cheap you can't ...
